The stat keepers at Montana Tech’s 58-14 win at MSU-Northern Saturday in Havre shortchanged the Orediggers by 310 yards. They also failed to credit some touchdowns to Oredigger players.
Montana Tech coaches went through the game film after returning to Butte and found that the Orediggers chalked up 622 yards of offense in the most lopsided win of five-year head coach Chuck Morrell’s tenure.
The Orediggers passed for 325 yards and rushed for another 297.
Quarterback Quinn McQueary completed 19 of 21 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Backup Dawson Reardon saw time and was also efficient, completing 6 of 8 throws for 70 yards and a score.
Alec Bray topped the century mark in receiving yards with nine receptions for 110 yards. Clay Cavender caught six passes for 47 yards and two scores.
On the ground, Nolan Saraceni racked up 101 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries. Not a bad way to kick off the post-Pat Hansen era. Zach Winfield ran for 91 yards and a score on six carries.
The Orediggers will look to duplicate those numbers, or at least come close, Saturday in their home opener against No. 4 Carroll College.
