SPOKANE, Wash. — Four members of the Montana Tech track & field program captured victories at the Whitworth Twilight Meet Thursday evening.
The meet was hosted by Whitworth University, and the field included, among others, the University of Montana and Gonzaga University. Team scores were not kept. (Results)
Carlin Manning, Naiya Beaudin, Jenna Jordan and Drake Schlachter are all coming home with individual wins for the Orediggers.
Manning ran to victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12 minutes, 20.76 seconds. The other three Tech victories came in field events.
Beaudin jumped 36 feet, ¼ inch to win the triple jump. She also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles.
Jordan, the reigning Frontier Conference Field Athlete of the Week, launched the javelin 139-6 for the win. She beat second-place Sierra Hardy of Montana by more than 14 feet.
Schlachter jumped 21-9 to win the ling jump. He took third in the 100-meter dash.
Tech’s Olleca Severson had a big day in the hurdles. She placed second in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Teammate Abby Clark took second in the long jump and fifth in the 400.
Oredigger Hailey Stiles took third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Natylia Jacobson ran to second place in the 100, and teammate Emily Ratz took second in the 400.
Other Tech athletes with top-five finishes were Alisa Hashley (third, 3,000 steeplechase), Daniel Diford (third, javelin), Justin Morgan, fourth (3,000 steeplechase), Caden Caywood (fourth, 100) and Butte High graduate Hailey Nielson (fifth, 5,000).
Tech senior Becca Richtman is competing this week at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California.
The Orediggers are back in action next Thursday and Friday at the Trudnowski Open/Frontier Conference Multi Events Championship in Helena.
