Montana Tech finished second in the preseason Frontier Conference football coaches poll.
The poll was released Tuesday, and Southern Oregon took the top spot with six of eight first-place votes. Tech and Carroll College each received one first-place vote.
Carroll was picked third, followed by Eastern Oregon, the College of Idaho, Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College and MSU-Northern.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. First place was worth seven points, second place worth six points, third place worth five points, fourth place worth four points, fifth place worth three points, sixth place worth two points and seventh place worth one point.
Montana Tech won the Frontier title last season with a 9-1 record last season. The Orediggers won a playoff game before falling in the second round of the playoffs. Southern Oregon advanced to the NAIA championship game before failing in its title defense.
The Orediggers open camp on Aug. 8th. Tech returns 83 players along with 34 incoming freshman. Eight offensive starters are back along with six defensive starters.
Tech opens the season Sept. 3 against Carroll College in Helena. The Orediggers play their first home game the following week against MSU-Northern.
