The Montana Tech football program opens spring practice on Wednesday. The Orediggers take part in a series of practices which will be highlighted by the annual Green and White Game on Saturday, April 25.
This spring marks the fifth for head coach Chuck Morrell. Tech returns 57 letterwinners from last year’s team, 27 on offense, 27 on defense and three on special teams.
On the offensive side, the Diggers return seven from 2014 including senior Alec Bray. The wide receiver led Tech in catches (35), receiving yards (458) and touchdowns (3). Bray also played a key role in special teams returning 12 punts for 140 yards earning Frontier Conference Second-Team All-Conference Special Teams honors.
Defensively, Tech returns six starters. Second-team All-America linebacker David Meis returns after leading the Digger defense last season. In 2014, Meis led the Diggers in total tackles (84), tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (6). Meis also led the Frontier Conference in tackles for a loss.
Tech will practice on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Green and White Game will take place on Saturday April 25 on the Bob Green Field at Alumni Coliseum at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 and can be purchased at the gate only.
The Digger Athletic Association will also hold Udder Insanity in conjunction with the spring game at Alumni Coliseum. Tickets for Udder Insanity are $20 each for a chance to win the $10,000 prize.
Following the Green and White Game, the annual Digger Athletic Association Montana Tech Auction will take place at 6 p.m. in the HPER. This year’s theme is Digger Island.
