Orediggers edge Providence

A 3-point shot by Jalen Shepard of the University of Providence at the buzzer was off mark, and Montana Tech’s men’s basketball team held on for a 69-68 win over the Argos Friday night at the HPER Complex. (Stats)

The thrilling victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Orediggers, who lifted their Frontier Conference record to 4-5. Tech is 14-7 overall.

Troy Owens Jr. scored 18 points to lead three Tech players in double figures as the Orediggers beat Providence for the second time in 16 days. Blake Dittman and Taylor England each scored 13 points.

England grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Derrius Collins added seven points, while Nate Ward scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

Tech also got four points from Dylan Pannabecker, three from Christian Jones and Nick Fitts and two from Carson Dummer.

Austin Starr scored 21 points to lead the Argos (13-7, 4-5). Brandon Cotton scored 15, and Jalen Shapard tossed in 13.

Tech is back in action Saturday when the Orediggers play host to MSU-Northern. The doubleheader begins with the women’s contest at 5:30 p.m.
