Orediggers Earn Second Sweep Downing Yotes

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech volleyball team improved to 2-0 at the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge and on the season with their second straight sweep downing the College of Idaho 30-28, 25-17, 25-22.

The Orediggers played from behind in the first set trailing 13-7 early. Tech battled back and the teams went point for point extending play until the Orediggers finished on top.

Olivia Muir had six of her 19 kills in the first frame. Muir finished the match with just one hitting error and a .667 hitting percentage. The senior outside hitter tallied the most kills in the match.

Maureen Jessop also had six of her ten kills in the first set helping the Orediggers get overcome the first set deficit.

Tech finished the first frame hitting .314 and finished the match with a .261 hitting percentage and outhit the Yotes 59-47.

The Yotes finished the match with a .084 hitting percentage.

The Orediggers had an impressive defense at the net as well finishing with 11 total blocks. Taylor Henley and Alexis Umland had four blocks a piece.

Jessop finished with 10 kills in the match and Olivia LaBeau had seven.

McKenna Kaelber had 22 assists and Layton Rhys finished with 17.

Shelby Nichol led the Yotes with 11 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Janae Rayborn had nine kills.

The Orediggers finished the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge Saturday against SAGU.
