BUTTE, Mont. – The Orediggers of Montana Tech closed out their portion of the Montana Big Sky Challenge with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Southwest Assemblies of God University (SAGU).
Trailing 11-3, and then 18-9 in the first set, Montana Tech clawed their way back to a 25-23 win in the first frame. With Kinnidi Willmore serving, the Diggs went on a 5-0 rally. Their longest rally of the 1st, was a six-point rally to end the set.
Every set was a battle. The Lions of SAGU swiped the second set 25-22, taking advantage of a match-high eight errors committed by the Orediggers.
The third set went the way of the home team, 25-23. Olivia Muir led the way with 7 kills in the third.
The fourth set belonged to the Diggs 25-19.
For the match, Montana Tech finished with 54 kills on 148 attempts, hitting .257.
Montana Tech was led by Olivia Muir with 18 kills, hitting a blistering .389 for the day. Maureen Jessop finished the day with 18 kills, on 45 attempts for a .244 hitting percentage.
Rhys Layton and McKnenna Kaelber both had big days, notching 27 and 20 assists respectively.
Emmy Green and Jelena Jablanov each accounted for 14 digs.
For the Lions of SAGU, Abby Wells and Bailee Alexander both accounted for 11 kills on the day.
The No. 15 Orediggers finished the Montana Big Sky Challenge 3-0. They prepare for their next matches in Joliet, Ill, at the University of St. Francis Big Dogs Classic, August 25th and 26th.
