Orediggers Catch Fire in Second Half, Down Saints 88-77

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech offense was hot in the second half as the Orediggers ran past the Carroll College Fighting Saints 88-77.

The Orediggers went cold at the end of the first half and the Saints went on a 15-4 run before the break. The Saints hit 3 of 4 three-point attempts in the final minutes to lead 41-33 going into the locker rooms.

The Saints shot 56.7% from the field and made 6 of their 11 three-point attempts.

The Orediggers shot just 35.5% in the first half. The second half was a different story highlighted by 55 points.

Tech tied the game back up in under five minutes. Caleb Bellach led the charge with 8 points during the 15-7 run that tied the score at 48.  Bellach led the Orediggers with 19 points in the game going 2 for 5 from beyond the arc, 5 for 5 from the free throw line while shooting 60% from the field.

The Orediggers shot 55.9% from the field after the break finishing with a 46.2%.

Tech had only three turnovers in the game to 12 assists. The Saints had 11 turnovers and 17 assists.

The Tech bench was a big factor scoring 28 points, with almost all of the points from Ifeayani Okeke and Keeley Bake. Okeke had 14 points going 6 for 8 from the free throw line and finished with 5 rebounds. Bake knocked down 2 of 3 three-point attempts finishing with 12 points.

Michael Ure had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Asa Williams had 12 points.

Chrishon Dixon had 8 points and 8 assists.

Andrew Cook had 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Saints.

Kendall Moore shot 4 for 8 from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points.

The Orediggers (13-3, 3-0) win their fourth straight staying unbeaten in conference play. The loss for the Saints (7-8, 2-1) was their first in conference action.

Montana Tech hosts Montana Western Thursday at 7 p.m. on Kelvin Sampsopn Court.
