Oredigger women roll Bears

HELENA — Montana Tech closed out the first half with a 27-3 run Friday night, and the Orediggers cruised to an 83-53 win over Rocky Mountain College. Stats

The win capped a 2-0 week for the Orediggers, who regained control over their hopes of playing in the Frontier Conference women’s basketball playoffs.

Sophia Baetz hit four of Montana Tech’s nine 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Tech, which improved to 6-8 in conference and 10-11 overall.

Mandy Machinal hit three 3-pointers and scored 16 points, while Kelsey DeWit and Kabri Emerson each tallied 10 points. Emerson also pulled down eight rebounds.

Also for Tech, Bryn Hasquet scored seven, Callee Remsen tossed in six, Rachel Farris and Kimi Heng scored four, Martha Dembek netted three, Shayla Mack tossed in two and Hattie Thatcher scored one.

Thatcher also dished out eight assists.

Allie Seauvageau scored 11 to lead the Bears, who fell to 0-13 and 7-15. Brittany Myers tossed in 10.

Montana Tech closes the regular season at home next week against Montana Western and Westminster College.

The top six teams advance to the playoffs, and Tech is sitting in sixth place after 14 games.
