Montana Tech head women’s basketball coach Carly Sanon announced junior college transfer Brooke Heggie has signed to play basketball for the Orediggers next year.
“I knew I wanted to take the invitation for an official visit after a very informative conference call with Coach Sanon and my parents,” Heggie said.
The 6-foot-2 post attended Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, Minnesota the last two years. Heggie was named all-region and All-American after averaging 17 points, 10.6 rebound and 2.4 blocks a game. She was also selected to the all-defensive team.
“Brooke is a great addition to our team. Her size, strength, and leadership is everything we are looking for in our program,” Sanon said. “She is a force in the paint. Brook is an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker.”
As a freshman, she was named to the all-defensive team and was selected second team in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.
Heggie scored more than 1,000 points in her prep career for Crookston High School and Alexandria Area High School. She was named the Central Lakes Conference Player of the Year in 2015. Heggie was a three-time all-conference selection and an all-state honorable mention. She also set the school record for block in a season with 59. Heggie played in the Minnesota 3A All-Star Game.
“Coach Sanon was very clear from our first conversation about the expectations she has for her program. Academics were the center of conversations and the knowledge that Montana Tech’s job placements rates after graduation are at 95 percent showed me I would end up with a quality education while playing the sport I love. I feel honored to be chosen to play my next two years at Montana Tech.”
