Oredigger women fall in tournament opener

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Montana Tech’s women’s basketball team suffered its first official loss of the season Friday night at the Jersey Mike’s Classic.

The Master’s University, the tournament host, jumped out to a 38-27 halftime lead and held off the Orediggers for a 65-59 victory. Stats

Anika Neuman scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Master’s. Hannah Forrar added 11 points, while Sabrina Thompson and Brooke Bailey each scored nine points.

Three Orediggers scored in double figures in the loss. Zaylee Zard came off the bench to score 11 points, while Shay Potter posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Sammy McGree came off the pine to score 10 points for the Orediggers, who got seven points from Hannah Sparks, five apiece from Kaylynn and Kourtney Coverdell, three from Monica Landdeck and two from Mesa Williams.

The 7-1 Orediggers close the tournament against Hope International Saturday afternoon.
