Dillon, Mont.- In another outstanding match from the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament in Dillon, the Orediggers get their second win of the tournament, as well as their second win in heart-stopping fashion.
After going five sets with the previously unbeaten Bulldogs of Montana Western yesterday, No. 11 Montana Tech needed five sets again today, as they took down the No. 23 Battlin’ Bears of Rocky Mountain College (21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12)
Senior Maureen Jessop finished the game with a staggering 27 kills, hitting .303 over the five sets. Olivia Muir tallied 12 kills, and Taylor Henley racked up 11, while hitting .333.
Freshman Rhys Layton was everywhere. The Oredigger setter finished the game with 56 assists. She is also credited with three kills -hitting .375- and 12 digs.
As a team the Orediggers finished hitting .196 as a team, and are credited with six aces over the five sets.
The Bears were led by Bella Bryan and Rhiannon Nez, both tallied 14 kills in the match, Nez hitting an impressive .458. Setter Blythe Sealey accounted for 47 assists for the Bears.
The Orediggers advance to 9-2 overall, the Bears are 9-5 after the loss. Though these tournament games are against Frontier Conference opponents, they do not count as conference games.
The Orediggers are up again at 4pm today as they battle the Skylights of MSU Northern. They will wrap up the tournament tomorrow against Carroll College at 4pm.
