Oredigger Sean Benson places second at Northern tourney

SHELBY — Montana Tech golfer Sean Benson fired a 3-over-par 75 Monday during the final round MSU-Northern’s tournament at Marias Valley Golf Course.

At 1-under-par 215, the Oredigger true freshman finished second in the men’s individual standings. Jordy Donoven of Rocky Mountain College shot a final-round 70 and won the tournament at 214.

Montana Tech’s Sean Ryan placed ninth overall at plus 14 after a final-round 76. Oredigger Cole Noctor tied for 24th at plus 26, and teammate Lee Paulson tied for 27th at plus 27 as Tech placed third overall.

Lewis-Clark State won the tournament with an 891 after a final-round 298. Rocky was second at 894. Tech fired a 308 Monday for a 927 total.

Rocky won the women’s title at 640. Montana Tech placed fifth at 804.

Rocky’s Kayla Clancy fired an 80 and held on for the individual title at 150. Gina Kowolchuk of the University of Great Falls shot a 75 Monday and took second at 152.

Taryn Campbell shot an 82 and tied for eighth place at 169. Freshman Hailey Ogolin carded a final-round 91 and placed 17th at 179.

The Orediggers will play at a Carroll College tournament next week.
