Olson buzzer beater lifts Butte High boys

KALISPELL — Big Jake Olson came through in a big way for the Bulldogs Friday night.

Butte High’s 6-foot-8 junior scored on a putback at the buzzer to lift the Bulldog boys’ basketball team to a 57-55 Western AA victory over Kalispell Flathead.

Olson’s bucket came moments after Olson drew a charging penalty to give the ball back to the Bulldogs for their final possession.

The dramatic bucket capped a 22-point night for Olson, who reached double figures scoring for the seventh time in eight games. He scored 14 points in the third quarter as Butte High overcame a 35-29 halftime deficit.

“The boys played great in the second half,” Bulldog coach Matt Luedtke said.

Blake Drakos sank four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 20 points in the victory that came without injured junior guard Billy Kelly.

Butte High also got five points apiece from Tommy Mellott and Cael Stenson. Andrew Booth tossed in three points, and Mikey O’Dell scored two.

Joston Cripe scored 13 of his team-leading 16 points for the Braves, who fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Gabe Adams scored 14 points.

The Bulldogs (3-5, 2-2) will stay in Kalispell to take on Flathead at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
