Ogolin, Starcevich place 15th at LC State Invite

LEWISTON, Idaho — Montana Tech golfers Hailey Ogolin and David Starcevich, both Butte High graduates, placed 15th at the Lewis-Clark State Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday.

Ogolin, a freshman, placed 15th on the women’s side at 183. She followed Monday’s 90 with a 93. Gina Kowolchuk shot a 74 Tuesday to run away with the individual crown. Kowolchuck, who shot 79 on Monday and finished at 153.

First-day leader Kayla Clancy of Rocky Mountain College placed second at 160 after a final-round 82.

Lewis-Clark State won the team title, shooting 329 Tuesday for a 670 total. Rocky placed second at 690, followed by Carroll College at 734, Montana Tech at 811 and MSU-Northern at 833.

Tech’s Megan Steach placed 19th at 194 after a final-round 98. Teammate Taryn Campbell added a 99 for a 197, while Ashten McCloskey hit 123 for a 237.

Starcevich, a sophomore who shot 82-78 on Monday, closed with an 83 for a 243 total.

LC State’s Chris Lein, who had a commanding lead after a 67-74 on Monday, closed out the individual victory with a 75 for an even par 216. Teammate Cole Lorenzo placed second at 221 after Tuesday’s 71.

The Warriors claimed the team title, closing with a 295 for an 893 total. Rocky was a distant second at 945, followed by Great Falls at 952, Carroll at 976, Tech at 980 and MSU-Northern at 1,219.

Oredigger Sean Benson shot a 79 and tied for 17th at 244. Sean Ryan, who hit 81 Tuesday, tied for 20th at 246, while Butte Central grad Cole Noctor tied for 24th at 250. Noctor also shot 81 on Tuesday.

Next up for the Orediggers is the Frontier Conference Championship, which is April 18-20 in Phoenix.
