Northern, Western split Dillon doubleheader

DILLON —Montana Western and MSU-Northern split a Frontier Conference basketball doubleheader Sunday at the Straugh Gymnasium.

Western’s women rode a fourth quarter comeback to a 74-69 victory before the Northern men avenged a Saturday loss with a 69-55 win.

Shainy Mack scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs, who outscored Northern 31-22 in the final frame for the weekend sweep. Brynley Fitzgerald added 16 points, while Sydney Sheridan scored 14, and Mesa King netted 12.

Fitzgerald collected five of Western’s 17 steals, and Paige Holmes, who scored five points, grabbed 10 rebounds was Western improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference.

Peyton Kehr scored 25 points to lead the Skylights. Cameron Mooney came off the bench to score 10.

David Harris scored 18 points to lead the Lights in the men’s game. Mascio McCadney added 15 points, and Jomel Boyd tossed in 11.

Jalen Hodges poured in 19 points to lead the Bulldogs, who fell to 3-3 and 2-3. Max Clark scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Jamal Stephenson tossed in 10 points.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Helena for two games next weekend. Northern will play host to Montana Tech.
