Northern California tops Butte in Regional opener

SAN JOSE, Calif — The Butte All-Stars could not overcome a slow start Saturday to open the Junior League Baseball West Regional at Cambrian Park.

Northern California-Livermore scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and rolled to an 18-1 win over Butte.

The loss sends the boys from Butte to a loser-out game against Hawaii-Pearl City at 2 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Monday. Northern California advances to play Arizona-Sunnyside Sunday. (Bracket)

Colin Johnson hit two doubles and drove in four runs to lead Northern California, which outhit Butte 10-3. Ben Johnson and Tyler Trudeau also had a two-hit game. Trudeau drove in three runs.

Cameron Tobiness, Quinn Cox and Derek Dunmire singled to lead Butte. Gavin Trudgeon knocked in Tobiness for Butte’s lone run.

Butte qualified for the tournament by winning the state title on Monday. The winner of the double-elimination tournament advances to the World Series in Michigan.
