HAVRE — MSU-Northern women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat is turning to the Mining City for yet another player.
Mouat announced the signing of Butte High star Natalee Faupel Wednesday night. Faupel will join former Butte Central standout Kacie McKeon on the Skylights roster next season.
“Natalee is a huge addition to our program,’’ Mouat, a former Butte High head coach, said in a statement. “She is one of the top players in the state of Montana, and has a very bright future as a college basketball player.”
Faupel averages 13.9 points per game for the No. 3-ranked Bulldogs. She seems to have taken her game to a new level as of late, averaging 18.4 points per game over the last five contests. The 14-2 Bulldogs have won 10 straight.
“She is capable of playing a number of positions on the floor, and will fit into our system perfectly,” Mouat said. “Natalee has been a vital part of a very successful program at Butte High School, and knows how to win.”
Faupel has been a major contributor for the Bulldogs since her freshman season. She helped the Bulldogs advance to the Class AA State tournaments three times.
Faupel has scored in double figures in 11 of Butte High’s 16 games during her senior season. She scored 22 in last Thursday’s win at Anaconda. Faupel also averages nearly eight rebounds and four steals per game.
Faupel, a solid track performer, also stared in soccer for the Bulldogs. On the soccer pitch, Faupel earned All-Conference honors four times. She was named an All-State player the last three seasons.
Faupel, the daughter of Cheri Faupel, maintains a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Natalee is a good all-around athlete,’’ Mouat said. “She has speed, jumps well, and has been extremely successful in all that she does. She seems to be playing better and better all of the time, and is a vital part of one of the top teams in all of AA basketball. We feel very fortunate to have added a student-athlete of her caliber and are excited for her future in a Skylight uniform.”
Faupel is the second member of the Butte High girls’ basketball team to sign to play basketball in the Frontier Conference. Classmate Hattie Thatcher signed with Montana Tech last fall.
