No. 8 Vanguard tops Montana Tech in five-set thriller

La MIRADA, Calif. — Montana Tech’s volleyball team gave No. 8-ranked Vanguard University all it could handle late Thursday night.

Vanguard topped the Orediggers in a 23-25, 31-33, 27-25, 25-12, 15-13 battle to cap the first day of the Biola Summer Slam on the campus of Biola University. The loss came hours after the Orediggers beat No. 13 Davenport University in Straight sets. Box score

Sarah McKinney tallied 13 kills to lead four different Vanguard players in double figures in the category.

Sydney Norris and Bailie Cortner each killed 16 to lead the Orediggers. Kaite Wiley added nine kills, while Jordan Danz killed seven. Makenzie Bauck dished up 54 assists, while three Orediggers reached double figures in digs.

Angie Pancost registered 14 digs. Norris dug 14, and Kaylee Berridge dug 11.

The Orediggers play two matches in the tournament on Friday. Tech plays Menlo College at 5 p.m. before playing The Master’s College at 9.
