Nix, Greenwood win Western A golf

HAMILTON — Johnny Nix of Whitefish and Macee Greenwood of Corvallis won Western A Divisional golf titles Friday at the Hamilton Golf Club.

Nix carded a 1-over-par 73 for the victory. Jackson Health of Hamilton and Reece Malyevac of Libby tied for second at 76. Defending Class A state champion Billy Smith of Whitefish tied with teammate Bjorn Olson for fourth.

Whitefish won the boys’ team title at 311, beating second-place Polson by 10 shots. Hamilton took third at 334, and Corvallis placed fourth at 370.

The top four teams and next eight individuals qualify for the Class A State tournament, which is next week on Polson.

Sam Henderson shot a 111 for Butte Central. Teammate Nick Lester carded a 136 on the final tournament of the season for the Maroons.

Greenwood hit a 79 to beat Frenchtown’s Kate Lewis by two shots. Aly Rose of Hamilton took third at 83, and Macy Whisenand of Whitefish finished fourth at 89.

Corvallis won the girls’ team title at 389. Hamilton was next at 391, followed by Polson at 409 and Whitefish at 422.
