Tech’s Schlachter posts first, second at Bobcat Challenge
BOZEMAN — Butte High graduates Hailey Nielson and Anna Trudnowski had a big day Friday as the college indoor track & field season opened with the Bobcat Challenge. (Results)
Nielson, a freshman from Montana Tech, ran to victory in the 3,000-meter race, while Trudnowski, a freshman at Montana State, won a pair of events in the women’s pentathlon at Worthington Arena.
Trudnwoski, a 2021 Butte High graduate, won the 800 meters and the high jump, clearing 5 feet 3 ¾ inches, placing fourth overall in the pentathlon. Trudnowski’s time of 2 minutes, 31.37 seconds was nearly two full seconds better than Whitney Morrison. The University of Montana runner placed second.
Nielson, a 2020 Bulldog grad, finished the 3,000 in 10:53.92. She beat second-place Reghan Worley of Carroll College by seven seconds.
Tech also placed first in the 1,600-meter relay. Emily Ratz, Abby Clark, Carlin Manning and Nielson finished in 4:25.19, beating second-place MSU-Billings by 19 second.
Also for the Tech women, Natylia Jacobson finished second in the 60- and 200-meter races.
On the men’s side, Oredigger Drake Schlachter captured a first- and second-place finish. He won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11 ½ inches. He also placed second in the 60 meters.
Tech’s Caden Caywood took third in the 200.
The Oredigger men also placed second in the 1,600 relay. Caywood, Ian Barille, Jon Hansen and Tucker Christiansen each ran a leg.
Montana State will host the Bobcat Performance Meet next Friday.
