GREAT FALLS — Hailey Nielson continued the strong start to her junior season Friday at the Great Falls Invitational.

Helena’s Kylie Hartnett won the race in 18:00. Elena Vandersloot of Billings Senior took second at 18:15 while Brynnli Poulsen of Hamilton ran to third at 18:28.

Nielson finished 3 seconds behind Helena High’s Odessa Zentz and Rylie Schoenfeld.

Helena High won the girls’ team title with 47 points. Hardin was second at 129.

The Bulldogs did not have enough runners for a team score, but they did see some solid times.

Junior Kyla Felix finished in 22:23, while classmate Ida Real ran in 22:27. Senior Katelyn Rapp crossed in 24:27.

Sophomore Trey Whitlock and junior Grant Smith broke the 19-minute mark to lead the Butte High boys. Whitlock finished in 18:17, beating Smith by eight seconds.

Sophomore Cohwen Houchin finished in 19:10 for the Bulldogs, while freshman Ryan Tomich finished in 19:17, and junior Cole Hunter ran in 19:36.

The Bulldogs, running without injured Brady Maloughney and Sean Foley, scored 667 team points. Missoula Sentinel won with 113. Billings West finished second at 140.

Kalispell Glacier’s Simon Hill won the boys’ race in 15:46.

At the Twin Bridges, Butte Central junior Savannah Parks placed 17th with a time of 25:46. She was the lone Maroon running varsity. Senior Jayden Mitchell did not run because he was part of the Butte Central Homecoming Royalty.

No other results are available for that race.

The Bulldogs and Maroons will run at the Mountain West Classic next Saturday in Missoula. 1 comment
