Nelson’s 21 paces Eagles

CHENEY, Wash. — Butte High graduate Lexie Nelson scored a game-high 21 point Saturday as the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team won its fourth straight game, beating Southern Utah 79-70.

What comes as no surprise to Butte High fans, Nelson was a perfect 12 for 12 from the free throw line in the victory.

“Lexie was aggressive and did a great job today,” Eastern Washington head coach Wendy Schuller said. “She is a player that puts in the time. When you shoot as many free throws as she does every day of her life, you deserve to go 12 for 12.”

Nelson averages a team-leading 14.3 points per game for the Eagles, who are 11-8 overall and 7-3 in Big Sky Conference play. The Eagles trail Montana and Montana State by one game in team standings.

Eastern Washington plays Montana State Thursday night in Bozeman.
