Nelson scores 13, Eagles fall at So. Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Lexie Nelson scored 13 points Saturday night as the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team fell 62-61 to Southern Utah in a Big Sky game. Stats

The Eagles erased a double-digit deficit only to see HayleeHodgins’ last-second shot bounce off the rim.

Nelson, a Butte High graduate, hit 5 of 6 free throws, ending her streak of consecutive made free throws at 24.

Laura Hughes came off the bench to score a team-leading 16 points. Hailey Mandelko scored 13 to lead Southern Utah, which improved to 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky.

The Eagles fell to 8-9 and 4-4. Eastern Washington plays at North Dakota and Northern Colorado next week.

Nelson is averaging a team-leading 17.5 points per game.
