Butte native Lexie Nelson had a big weekend as the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team closed out the regular season with a pair of home wins.
Nelson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Eagles to a 67-61 win over Idaho State Saturday in Cheney. She hit 7 of 10 shot on the night. Nelson was also a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line.
The leading scorer in Butte High history scored 18 points in Saturday’s 70-53 Senior Night win over Weber State.
At 14-6 in conference and 18-11 overall, the Eagles placed third in the Big Sky Conference. Montana (16-4, 22-7) won the regular-season title and will host the Big Sky Conference tournament. Northern Colorado (15-5, 18-11) placed second.
Eastern Washington will open the conference tournament Wednesday against Montana State at 5:30 p.m. In other games, Northern Colorado will face Southern Utah at 3 p.m., Idaho State takes on Sacrament State at 8.
Montana received a bye to Friday’s semifinals.
