Butte basketball fans have long known of the legendary work ethic of Lexie Nelson. Now fans of the Eastern Washington Eagles are learning of the attitude that helped Nelson become Butte High’s all-time leading scorer.
Nelson’s work ethic was the subject of a story in The Spokesman Review on Wednesday. Nelson leads Eastern Washington in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game. She scored 19 points in each of the last two games.
“She’s probably as tough and competitive a player as I’ve ever coached and I’ve been coaching 20 years,” said Eastern Washington coach Wendy Schuller told the newspaper. “She doesn’t know how to do anything half-speed, whether it’s academics or basketball.”
