National Guard, NFL, Butte High camp begins Friday

The Montana Army National Guard, the National Football league and Butte High school will conduct a free high school player development camp for players entering ninth through 12th grade next school year.

The camp is for individuals and teams and will run June Friday and Saturday at East Middle School. The camp will help select two teams of 12 players to represent Montana in the Regional tournament in Seattle. The winner of that tournament will represent the Seattle Seahawks in the National HSPD 7 on 7 Football tournament.

Teams committed include Butte High, Belgrade, Anaconda, Deer Lodge, Twin Bridges and Boulder.

The camp will focus heavily on position drills and leadership development. The National Guard and NFL have been partners in conducting these camps across the United States for the past five years. This is the third camp in Montana.

The high school development program addresses challenges facing high school programs across the country. The program emphasizes safety and concussion awareness, character development and life skills, and football fundamentals.

The camp will run without helmets and pads. Lodging will be available at the Butte Plaza Mall. Cots will be provided, but athletes staying will need to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow.

Registration forms will be accepted until the start of the camp.
