Natalee Faupel earns Frontier honor again

Natalee Faupel of Montana State-Northern was named the Frontier Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Faupel is a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Butte.The eighth-ranked Skylights split two games at home, beating Montana Tech 71-66 and losing to No. 20 Lewis-Clark State 71-51.

For the weekend, the Butte High graduate averaged 24 points, six rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Faupel was 13 of 24 (54 percent) from the field, 1 of 2 in 3-point field goals and 21 of 26 (81 percent) from the free throw line.

Over the last four games, Faupel has scored 92 points.

Montana Tech’s Hattie Thatcher, a former teammate of Faupel at Butte High, was also nominated for the award. So were Brittney Johnson of Carroll College, Erin Legel of the University of Great Falls, Whitney Mitchell of Rocky Mountain College and Brittany Tackett of Lewis-Clark State.

Rob Nyby of Rocky Mountain College was named the Frontier Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Nyby is a 6-foot-5 senior forward from Plentywood, Mont. Rocky dropped two road games over the weekend, losing to Montana Western (RV) 74-78 and to No. 12 Carroll College 86-92

He averaged 26 points, 9.5 rebounds, three assists and one steal per game. Nyby was 20 of 36 in field goals (57 percent) including 11 of 18 (61 percent) from 3-point-range.

Jalen Coates of Montana Tech, Shyke Smalls of Montana Western, Warren Edmondson of Montana State-Northern, Zach Taylor of Carroll College and Jacob Wiley of Lewis-Clark State were also nominated.
