Muckers work late to sweep Independents

HELENA — The Butte Muckers went late into the night to sweep the Helena Independents Friday.

Butte won the opener 10-8 before coming from way behind to win 8-7 in the night camp. The wins even the Muckers record at 2-2.

The Butte boys will have a quick turnaround before playing their first home games of the season Saturday. The Anaconda A’s come to town for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at 3 Legends Stadium.

Game 1
Butte Muckers 10, Helena Independents 8
Tyler Duffy hit a triple and a double, while Garrett Sharp hit a double and a single to lead Butte’s eight-hit attack in the opener.

Derek Dunmire, Trey Hansen, Jacob Tauscher and Zach O’Connell singled in the win. Hansen and O’Connell each worked three walks in the win. Overall, the Muckers took advantage of 11 free passes.

O’Connell, who knocked in two runs, pitched into the fifth inning, striking out five and walking three to get the win. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits. Sharp pitched two and a third innings to get the save.

Eli Peterson and Jack Taylor doubled to lead the Independents, who racked up 12 hits. Taylor’s two bagger came in a three-hit game.

Game 2
Butte Muckers 8, Helena Independents 7
The Muckers scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Butte club overcame a 5-0 deficit in the nightcap.

Tocher Lee, Hansen and O’Connell hit RBI doubles to highlight Butte’s big inning. Hansen joined Tauscher and Colby Gordon with a two-hit game. Tauscher hit a double, while Hansen tripled.

Dunmire and Duffy added hits for Butte. Dunmire got the start on the bump and pitched into the third. Hansen struck out seven batters in four and two thirds innings of relief to pick up the win.

Tizer Lindgren doubled to lead Helena. Ryker Roman and Hayden Langemo each two singles.
