Muckers win three straight to claim fifth place

BILLINGS — The Butte Muckers chalked up three straight wins to close the B tournament, placing fifth.

The Muckers beat the Triple Play Academy Saturday and Sunday morning. Then they knocked off Cody, Wyoming, 7-4 in the fifth place game.

Gavin Vetter, Kadyn Lester and Max Demarais each hit a pair of singles to lead the Muckers past Cody, backing up a strong pitching performance by Brady Garner, who went the distance.

Hunter Hotalen tripled, while Eason Lakala and Kevin Donaldson each hit a single.

Butte beat Triple Play 8-1 Saturday and 12-1 on Sunday.

Zach Tierney hit a triple, double and single to lead Butte Saturday. Garner hit a double and two singles, and Ethan Edwards knocked a pair of singles. Also, Kooper Klobucar tripled and Lester singled to back up a five-hit performance from Demarais on the bump.

Michael McGivern tossed a three hitter Sunday morning. That came after Butte scored five runs in the first to take command.

Rye Doherty smacked three singles, and Lakala and Anthony Knott each hit two to help supply the run support. Tierney, Demarais, Hunter Salcido and Gian Reynolds singled.

The Muckers will play Tuesday at the Bozeman B.
