Muckers win one that counts in twin bill

The Butte Muckers won the important game of a doubleheader with the Bozeman Spikes Thursday afternoon at Copper Mountain Park.

The Muckers won the opener 12-10, and the Spikes battled back to take the second game 7-2. Only the first game, which was scheduled for nine innings, counted in Southern A standings.

Butte’s scheduled home doubleheader against the Missoula Mavericks on Friday has been called off. Next up for the Muckers is a trip to Bozeman to take on the Spikes on July 8.

Butte Muckers 12, Bozeman Spikes 10

Bryson Henningsen, Dylan Sestrich and Ryan Wahl each drove in three runs to lead the Muckers, who smacked 18 hits in the victory.

Liam Sommer went 4 for 5 with a double, while Ryan Schultz went 3 for 4 from the leadoff spot. Henningsen went 3 for 5 with a triple, and Sestrich, who doubled, joined Austin Gerry and Wahl with a two-hit game. Gerry scored three times.

Conner Miranda and Tucker Winston added singles for the home team.

Sestrich started and pitched into the seventh inning. Sommer got eight outs in relief to pick up the win.

Jackson Wade tripled and drove in four runs to lead the Spikes.

Koby Scala went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Bozeman, which scored four runs in the top of the first inning.

Aiden Jarrett, William Leep, Ian Hodges and Jhett Johnson combined to hold the Muckers to six hits.

Sommer smacked a pair of singles. Schultz, Sestrich, Wahl and Trevor Neumann each hit one.
