Muckers split with Posse to close out tournament

The Butte Muckers had to settle for sixth place in a tournament they hosted this weekend on Miners Field at 3 Legends Stadium.

The Muckers, though, have to come away feeling good about their Sunday performance.

After dropping their first three games of the tournament, the Muckers knocked off the Gallatin Valley Posse 9-4 Sunday morning to qualify for the fifth-place game. There, Butte fell 9-7 to the Posse to close the tournament.

Next up for the Butte boys is next Saturday’s road trip to take on the Helena B.

Britton Beedie went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Posse as they bounced back from the morning loss.

Nick Albro doubled and singled in the victory.

Kevin Donaldson went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Muckers, who outhit the Posse 9-8. Donaldson also started on the bump and was the victim of seven unearned runs.

Jacob Tauscher tripled and knocked in two runs, while Trey Hansen hit a double and a single. He also walked twice and scored two runs.

Quinn Cox, Jakob Nielsen and Derek Dunmire each added a single. Anthony Knott drew a pair of walks.

Hansen, Zach O’Connell and Garrett Sharp doubled to lead the Muckers in the morning victory.

Sharp knocked in three runs to back up the strong performance by starter Mike McGivern. McGivern pitched in to the sixth inning, fanning 11 batters for the win.

Hansen added a single, while Knott, Cox, Cameron Tobiness, Tyler Duffy and George Riojas hit singles in the Butte win.

Michael Diefenderfer and Reid Woodward doubled for the Posse.
