Muckers split with A’s

The Butte Muckers and Anaconda A’s split a Southern A doubleheader Wednesday night at 3 Legends Stadium.

The Muckers walked off with a 4-3 win in the opener. Anaconda battled back for a 13-8 win in the nightcap.

The Muckers are back in action Saturday when they head to Helena for a doubleheader with the Reps. They play a twin bill in Livingston on Sunday.

Butte’s next home action is a July 21 doubleheader against Bozeman.

Game 1
Butte Muckers 4, Anaconda A’s 3
Carsen Dodge doubled in Kian O’Neill with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The game-winning hit came with two out. O’Neill singled, took second when Aidan Lee flew out to center and scored from second base.

Anaconda struck first. Leadoff hitter Braedon Sawyer reached on an error and scored on a Luke Jensen sacrifice fly.

The Muckers tied it in the bottom of the first when Egan Lester singled and scored on a Dodge single. Butte took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second when Lester doubled in Reece Cox and Christian Vetter.

Cox worked a walk, while Vetter singled.

RBI singles by Jensen in the third and fifth tied the game at four. He scored Peyton Klanecky in the third and Mason Worl in the fifth.

Dodge poked three hits, including a double, to lead the Muckers nine-hit attack. Lester and O’Neill each had two hits, while Tanner Huff joined Vetter with one.

Cox pitched the seventh inning to get the win in relief. Butte starter Wolfgang Doty pitched six innings, striking out six and walking one. He scattered four hits, and only two of the three runs allowed were earned.

Michael Hessler pitched the distance, walking five and walking two in the hard-luck loss.

Game 2
Anaconda A’s 13, Butte Muckers 8
Worl and Sean Kellegher each pounded three hits to lead the A’s, who smacked 12 hits in the victory.

After Anaconda scored three runs in the top of the first inning, the Muckers took the lead with five in the bottom of the frame.

Anaconda scored two in the second and two in the third to take a 7-5 lead.

Brian Ogolin singled in a pair of runs to tie the game at 7 in the bottom of the third. The A’s, though, pulled away with five runs in the top of the fourth

A two-run single by Worl was the big hit of the inning.

Sawyer, Jensen, Hessler, Bubba Morris, Brandon Shaw and Pat Galle singled in the win for Anaconda. Jensen pitched the distance, striking out five and walking four for the victory.

Doty went 3 for 4, while O’Neill and Coyt Stajcar each hit a double to lead Butte. Lester, Lee, Billy Kelly, Bryan Holland and Ogolin each added one hit.
