Muckers, A’s split twin bill

The Butte Muckers and Anaconda A’s split an American Legion doubleheader Saturday at 3 Legends Stadium.

The twin bill was the home opener for the Muckers.

Butte bombarded the A’s for a 28-7 win in the opener. The A’s battled back for an 11-9 win in the opener.

The Muckers (3-3) are back in action Friday with a home doubleheader against Bozeman.

Game 1
Butte Muckers 28, Anaconda A’s 7
The uckers scored seven runs in the second, 10 in the third and nine in the fourth to lead the Muckers in the rout. The game was called after five innings by the mercy rule.

Derek Dunmire and Gavin Trudgeon each drove in five runs to lead the Muckers. Garrett Sharp. Lucas Harris-Huerta and Zach O’Connell each drove in three. Matthew Donaldson and Colby Gordon each notched two RBIs.

Gordon pitched four innings to get the win.

Jayce Caughlin drove in three runs to lead the A’s.

Game 2
Anaconda A’s 11, Butte Muckers 9
The A’s rebounded in a big way in Game 2.

Anaconda scored five runs in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead. Butte battled back, but the comeback fell short.

Caughlin and Andrew Tallon doubled to lead the A’s in the win. Tallon, Tommy Sawyer and Travis Dye each had a two-hit game. Alex Jorgensen pitched five innings, striking out seven in the win.

Dunmire tripled and drove in two runs. Trey Hansen and Braden Pierce doubled, and Jacob Tauscher hit two singles.

Will Stepan, Tyler Duffy, Tocher Lee and Sharp also singled for Butte. Hansen and Sharp joined Dunmire with two RBIs.
