OGDEN, Utah — The Big Sky Conference has issued a one-game suspension to Montana State football player Caleb Schreibeis for an illegal hit on a defenseless receiver.
Schreibeis will serve the suspension on Saturday, Oct. 6, when Montana State plays at UC Davis.
Schreibeis, a senior defensive end from Billings, Mont., made illegal contact with a Southern Utah receiver with 10:50 to play in the fourth quarter of the Bobcats’ 24-17 victory over the Thunderbirds.
Schreibeis violated NCAA football rule 9-1-4, which states, “No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder.’’
The hit was reviewed by Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton, Big Sky coordinator of football officials Doug Toole, and NCAA national coordinator of officials Rogers Redding.
