BOZEMAN — Call it a clean sweep for Brad Daly.
Montana State’s senior defensive end was introduced as the top defensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision at the FCS championship game in Frisco, Tex., on Saturday. The award was the second of two major defensive player of the year honors for the 2013 senior from Helena, who was also a unanimous All-American.
Daly earned Big Sky Conference Defensive Co-Player of the Year honors following a season in which he led the FCS in tackles-for-loss (20.5) and sacks (14). He became the second straight Bobcat to bring home the Buck Buchanan Award from The Sports Network as the nation’s top defensive player in mid-December, and earning first team All-America honors from each organization that has announced its award to this point.
In 2012, Caleb Schreibeis landed the Buchanan Award. Daly’s brother Bobby was an All-America linebacker at MSU in 2007 and ’08, and Brad and Bobby’s father J was, like his sons, a Bobcat team captain.
