MSU spikers eager for first scrimmage

With the first full week of preseason practices about to end, the Montana State volleyball team is ready to show everyone how all the hard work is beginning to pay off.

With the first scrimmage of the fall scheduled for this Saturday, MSU is preparing to show a new look.  “We want the fans to see a new style of play,” first-year coach Kyle Weindel said. “We also want our fans to see how things will be different than they have in the past.”

Practice has gone smooth so far, but it hasn’t been easy, “Everyday we put up goals and statistically we’ve been getting better. With those goals, we try to meet or beat them every practice. It’s a good way to measure how things have been going in the gym,” Weindel said.

Weindel is not the only one excited for the season to begin. Junior libero Nicole Baker is getting anxious for real competition to begin. “We’re starting to get back in the swing of things,” Baker said. “Everyone is working together as a team and getting ready for the season to begin.”

As for the scrimmage this Saturday, they will not be taking it easy on each other. Baker added, “We all want to get back in a competitive environment. It will fun to play each other and to realize the season is here.”

Montana State went 6-23 overall and 4-12 in Big Sky action last fall.

The scrimmage is set to begin at 4 pm in the Shroyer Gym.
