BILLINGS — The Montana State-Billings men and the Rocky Mountain women didn’t exactly blow away the field Thursday at Pryor Creek Golf Club.
Actually, the entire field was nearly blown away.
The MSU-B men and Rocky women were declared winners of the fifth annual Yellowjacket Spring Invitational golf tournament after play was suspended by wind gusts of 55 to 60 miles per hour.
The tournament was shortened to 18 holes.
On the men’s side, the Yellowjackets shot a 299 to top Rocky by seven shots. Rocky’s ‘B’ team was third at 323.
Montana Tech sent two men’s teams. The Orediggers ‘B’ team placed fifth at 341. The other Tech team was sixth out of seven at 343.
Gage Huft of MSU-B shot a 1-over-par 73 to win medalist honors. He topped teammate Brad Harrelson and Rocky’s Taylor Noble by one shot.
Brian Schwarzkoph was the lone Oredigger in the top 20. He placed 18th with an 82.
On the women’s side, Rocky shot 329 to beat MSU-Billings by two shots. MSU-B’s ‘B’ team was third at 360. The Orediggers didn’t have enough players for a team score.
Rocky’s Kayla Clancy’s 79 claimed medalist honors, beating MSU-B’s Katie Fish by one shot.
Tech’s Kiley McConnell tied for 13th with a 91. Teammate Danielle McCully placed 18th at 94.
