SEATTLE — Chuck Morrell is moving to the Pac-12.
The former Montana Tech head coach has will join the University of Washington as the team’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. The school announced the hiring of Morrell, along with four other coaches, Saturday.
At Washington, Morrell will join new head coach Kalen DeBoer, the same coach who lured Morrell away from Tech to serve as a secondary coach at Fresno State two years ago.
Morrell coached with DeBoer at the University of Sioux Falls before he moved to Butte to replace retiring Bob Green as head coach of the Orediggers before the 2011 season.
“Having coached with Coach Morrell for 12 years, I have seen first-hand the ability he has to build attacking and dominant defenses,” DeBoer said in a statement. “He is also an experienced and highly successful former head coach who will bring expertise and perspective to our program beyond just leading the defense. I am truly excited to have him and his family joining our UW football program.”
At Montana Tech, Morrell led the Orediggers to a 52-44 record in nine seasons. He went 49-41 in league play, capturing the Frontier Conference title in 2012, 2015 and 2016.
Morrell’s Orediggers advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs in 2015 and 2016.
