More BC athletes qualify for State track

CORVALLIS  — Seven Butte Central individuals and two relay teams qualified for the Class A State track meet Saturday, placing in the top five at the Southwestern A divisional meet.

The Dillon boys and Corvallis girls won rolled to team titles, but the Maroons made sure they’d be well represented at the biggest meet of the year, which is next week in Laurel.

Marcus Ferriter, who qualified for state in the shot put Friday, secured a spot at the big meet with a fourth-place finish in the discus.

The top five place winners in each event advance.

BC’s Kyle Harrington placed third in the 100, while teammates Connor McGree (100), Shannon Tempel (800) and Brady Tippett (javelin) all took fifth place and a trip to State. The BC boys placed fifth in the 1,600 relay.  Harrington, McGree, Tempel and Conor McGee ran that race.

On the girls’ side, Whitney McGree ran to third place in the 100 for the Maroons. Mollie McIntyre took fifth in the high jump, while Mariah Cooney tripled jumped to fifth place.

BC’s girls placed fourth in the 1,600 relay with Cassidy McGree, Whitney McGree, Erin Antonioli and Cooney running.

Cooney qualified for State in the long jump, triple jump and javelin during the season.

Future University of Montana receiver Austin Carver won the 100 and 200 to lead Dillon’s boys to the team title. Teammate Mick Paffhausen won the 300 hurdles.
