Montana Western men’s hoops roundup

DILLON —The University of Montana Western hosted the Craig Finberg Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27. The tournament featured four teams: Walla Walla University, College of Idaho, Rocky Mountain College and Montana Western.

The Bulldogs played the College of Idaho on Friday, Oct. 26 and Walla Walla University on Saturday, Oct. 27. Montana Western defended their home floor in both games, with a 72-52 victory on Friday and a 56-38 win on Saturday.

The College of Idaho made a three-pointer in the first minute for their only lead of the game. Montana Western turned up the heat and began to pull ahead, going into halftime with a 40-20 lead. The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 27 in the second half before the College of Idaho brought it back to 20 for the final score of 72-52.

Montana Western shot 42 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line while limiting the College of Idaho to 33 percent from the field and 33 percent on threes.

The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was Maazin Butler with 17 followed by Kris Collins with 14 and Jordan Overstreet with 11. Tyler Miller had a nice showing with nine rebounds, seven points and five assists. Collins added five steals and four assists.

The College of Idaho was led by Sydney Donaldson with 10 points, Rodney Delgardo with six assists and Ben Van Lith with nine rebounds.

In a slow game on Saturday, Montana Western and Walla Walla University went into halftime tied at 24. The Bulldogs picked it up in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 32-14 to finish the game with a 56-38 victory.

Montana Western’s Jordan Overstreet led all scorers with 16 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Kris Castro added eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks. All 11 Bulldogs contributed in the win; 10 players scored, 10 others had a rebound and nine had at least one assist.

Walla Walla University was led by Miguel Martinez’s 10 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Spady chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs will be on the road to Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend. They play Western State on Friday, Nov. 2 and Fort Lewis College on Saturday, Nov. 3. Both games tip off at 5 p.m.
