Montana Tech receives NAIA Five-Star Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced their Champions of Character Five-Star Award Institutions. Montana Tech was named a Silver Five-Star Award recipient.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

Montana Tech student-athletes are involved in numerous civic activities racking up over 1,100 hours of community service last year. Some of the projects Oredigger student-athletes lend a hand with are the Beautify Butte Community Cleanup Project, reading in schools, United Way Dress a Child program, helping with the Kiwanas Sunshine Camp and Special Olympics.

Montana Tech Athletics started a Student-Athlete Advisory Council last year to help lead the efforts of the student-athlete on campus and in the community.

Eight schools in the Frontier Conference received the award. Montana Tech is one of four Frontier schools receiving the Silver Five-Star Award. Montana Tech has received the honor since the award started in 2009-10.
