KASNSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the sites for the NAIA Men’s Basketball Championship Opening Rounds today. Montana Tech was one of 16 sties chosen to host the first and second rounds of the 83rd Annual Basketball Championship.
The opening round games are March 7-8 and will be played on Kelvin Sampson Court at the HPER Complex. The first two games of the NAIA National Championship will feature four teams playing in the first round on March 7th and the winners meeting on Wednesday March 8th. The winning institution will move on to the final site in Kansas City, Missouri on March 13-18 at the Municipal Auditorium.
No. 10 Montana Tech wrapped up the regular season last weekend winning the Frontier Conference Championship for the second straight year. This year they do not share the regular season title after finishing 12-3 in conference games going undefeated against Frontier opponents at home this season.
The Orediggers finished with an overall record of 24-4 and are the top seed going into the Frontier Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls starting Sunday. This year is the first single site tournament for the Frontier in over a decade. Tech received a first-round bye and start their post season journey on Monday at 5 p.m. against the lowest remaining seed after the first round.
Montana Tech won the Frontier Conference Tournament last season earning the conference’s automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship. Last year was the first time an Oredigger men’s team reached the national tournament since 1999.
Game times and ticket information will be released after the Frontier Conference Tournament.
