Montana Gold second in Spokane tourney

The Montana Gold girls’ high school basketball team recently finished 2nd in the Spokane Heat basketball tournament.  The event, which was held July 23-24, 2014 at the Spokane Warehouse Basketball Complex, was a NCAA viewing tournament.

Montana Gold opened the tournament with a 53-44 loss to the Spokane Sandpipers.

In their second game the team defeated the T.R.B.O. Basketball Club of Oregon 66-28 to advance to the championship bracket quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals Montana Gold won to the Northside Swarm of Seattle 57-30. In the semi-finals the team beat Legacy of Spokane 56-33 to advance to the championship. In the championship game the Spokane Sandpipers defeated Montana Gold 54-46.

The team, which was coached by Quinn Peoples included Jamie McCrae of Shepherd, Jeanan Lemelin of Billings Senior, Britt Copper of Harrison, and Butte Central players Mollie Peoples, Kate Ossello, Taylor Wahl and Kailee Murphy. The Team finished with a record of 10-5after going 3-3 in a Seattle NCAA viewing tournament, 5-0 in the Montana Big Sky Games, and 3-2 in the Spokane Tournament.
