SAN DIEGO — The Montana Breakers AAU girls’ basketball team finished third in the MSNM Western Championships NCAA certified basketball tournament held July 27-30. The team finished 5-1 in the event and placed third in the 40 team tournament field.
In pool play, Montana Hoops defeated Stockton Mustangs of Stockton, California 62-36, Team Concept Heat of Portland, Oregon 60-28, Triple Threat Gold of Murieta, California 76-52 and Spokane Legacy of Spokane, Washington 56-48.
The first-place finish in pool play advanced the team to the tournament quarterfinals, where they defeated the Seattle Transition Black of Seattle, Washington 77-65. In the tournament final four, Montana Breakers were defeated 52-20 by EDC Elite of Seattle, Washington.
The third-place finish capped a 15-4 overall record for the team, which was coached by Kevin St. John and Pat Goldhahn. In addition to the San Diego tournament, the team finished 3-1 at the Addidas Phoenix Gauntlet played April 15-17 in Glendale, Arizona, 4-1 at the End of Trail Tournament in Oregon City, Oregon, played July 5-8, and 3-1 at the Spokane Heat Summer NCAA Viewing Tournament in Spokane, Washington, played July 23-24.
The Montana team included Emily St. John and Mollie Peoples of Butte Central, Amber Tarabochia and Emily O’Leary of Bozeman, Hailey Crawford and Taelyr Krantz of Helena High, Peyton Kehr of Columbia Falls, Nikki Krueger of Glacier and Allix Goldhahn of Fairfield.
