Mollie Peoples named Frontier Player of the Week

WHITEFISH — Mollie Peoples’ outstanding opening weekend of the season did not go unnoticed.

The Montana Tech senior was named the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The honor comes after the 5-foot-8 Butte Central graduate helped lead the Orediggers to a weekend split with Montana Western in Dillon. The Orediggers won 69-57 on Saturday, but fell 82-67 on Sunday.

Peoples sank eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Orediggers in the loss.  For the weekend, Peoples averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2 steals. She shot 14 of 23 from the field including 13 of 21 from beyond the arc.

Peoples and the Orediggers are back in action Thursday when they play host to Carroll College at a fan-free HPER Complex.

MSU-Northern senior guard David Harris took home the men’s honor. The 6-4 Harris scored 23 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Lights to an 86-64 season-opening win over Yellowstone Christian.
