Mining City thinclads hit the Top 10 meet

The Top 10 Track Meet is set for Tuesday at Missoula County Stadium, with the top high school athletes from Western Montana slated to participate.

Butte High and Butte Central will both send athletes to the meet.

Butte High will send all four relay teams. The boys’ 4×100 relay consists of Clay Dean, Bo Mortensen, Anthony Cooney and Dalton Daum, while the 4×400 relay looks to Dean, Daum, Shannon Tempel and Cooney. The Butte High girls bring Bailey McCarthy, Mijah McLeod, Sydney Pendergast and Mar Sorini for the sprint relay and Joby Rosenleaf, Caitlin Carmody, Pendergast and Sorini for the mile relay.

Individually, super sophomore Abby Dodge leads Butte High’s girls by participating in the high jump and triple jump, while Rosenleaf hits the 3,200 and Carmody competes in the 800.

For the Butte High’s boys, Daum will run the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Tempel is entered in the 800. Dean will man the 300 hurdles for the Bulldogs.

Butte Central’s girls are represented only by Rachel McGree, but they’re well represented by the talented sophomore in the long jump, triple jump and the 100 hurdles.

The Maroon boys will send weightmen Marcus Ferriter (shot and disc) and Kaemen Richards (shot), as well as speedster Kyle Harrington in the 100 and Cole Harper in the long jump. Butte Central’s sprint relay team of Harper, Tanner Kump, Blake Burton and Harrington will also make the trip to compete.
