BOISE, Idaho — Butte High’s cross country team sent 17 runners to compete in the NXR Northwest Regional Championships Saturday.
Running under the name “Mining City Harriers,” the Butte runners posted strong times. Butte sent 12 boys and five girls to the race that saw 1,224 boys and 737 girls finish. (Results)
Butte High senior Sean Foley and junior Hailey Neilson led the Butte High runners.
Foley placed 598th on the boys’ side, finishing with a career-best 18 minutes, 33 seconds in the 5-kilometer race.
Sophomore Cowhen Houchin finished in 18:38.
Sophomore Brady Maloughney (19:10) and juniors Mikey Haldane (19:15), Grant Smith (19:20) and Cole Hunter (19:35) broke 20 minutes.
Freshman Ryan Tomich (20:30), sophomore Damian Young (20:40), freshman Kaden Hennessey (20:42), freshman Daniel Harrington (20:45), freshman Riley Lubick (20:53) and senior Sam Byrnes (21:42) also ran for the Mining City Harriers.
Nielson placed 49th on the girls’ side. She finished the race in 19:59.
Juniors Kyla Felix (23:37) and Ida Real (24:31), senior Justice Ross (28:14) and freshman Kayleen Noctor (32:29) also ran for Butte.
