Mining City grade school wrestling is back

The Mining City Grade School Wrestling program is making a return.

The Silver Bow Amateur Wrestling Association, also known as the Butte Wrestling Club, is working in conjunction with the Butte School District No. 1 ROCKIES Program to reintroduce the program.

The three-week season is designed to bring wrestling back to the fifth and sixth grades to all Butte and Ramsay participants. The program is free of charge, and all students are encouraged to participate.

Practice will begin next week and conclude with a city-wide folk style tournament at Butte High’s Richardson Gym on March 6.

Practices will be held Feb. 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and March 4. Whittier and Butte Central will practice at the Maroon Activities Center. Hillcrest and Margret Leary will practice at Margret Leary. West, Ramsay, Kennedy and Emerson will practice at West Elementary.

Schools will compete with each other for the opportunity to win a Mining City grade school championship. Individual champions will also be crowned. All place-winners will be awarded medals, and the school champion will be awarded a trophy.
