HELENA — The Butte Miners came within one run of playing in Sunday’s championship game of the 20^th Keith Sell Tournament at Kindrick Legion Field.

After completing pool play a 12-3 win over Calgary Saturday, the Miners fell 6-5 to the host Helena Senators in the semifinals Saturday night.

Nick Wrigg hit a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the Senators walking off to the championship game.

The third-place game is set for 5:15 p.m. Sunday. The title game follows at 8.

Helena Senators 6, Butte Miners 5
Wrigg’s game winner came after the Miners score three runs in the top of the inning to take the 5-4 lead.

Nate LeProwse and Ryan Moodry Walked, while Jared Haran reached on a single. All three scored on errors.

Wrigg joined Jackson Thennis with a two-hit game. Jack Shevalier struck out 12 batters in six innings before reliever Kenny Wilson got the vulcher win.

Moodry went 3 for 3 to lead the Miners at the plate. Haran hit a pair of singles, while Dylan McDonald tripled and Ax Henningsen doubled in the win.

LeProwse, Trey Hoagland and Kilian O’Leary hit singles.

Moodry went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Mienrs past the Redbirds in a game stopped by the eight-run mercy rule after six innings.

Calgary led 3-2 before the Miners erupted for five in the fourth and five in the fifth.

LeProwse and McDonald each hit a pair of singles, while Haran, Hoagland, Henningsen, O’Leary and Renzy Doherty added one.

Koby Doherty pitched five and two thirds innings to get the win.
